Respiratory Medicine Unit-3 is a specialized medicine unit that focuses on the diagnosis, treatment, and management of respiratory disorders. This unit is equipped with state-of-the-art technology and staffed by highly trained professionals who are specialized in respiratory medicine. This unit guided by an expert, efficient and knowledgeable personality in the field of pulmonology Associate Professor Dr. Md Zakir Hossain Sarker, that offers a top-quality care to patients suffering from different respiratory diseases and critical pulmonary patients . This respiratory medicine unit-III focus on academic activities, researches and also demonstrated excellence in patient care, emergency services and human resource development.
Structure: The unit runs under supervision of Unit chief along with Assistant Professor, Consultant, Registrar, Assistant registrar and Medical officer.

Services:
Academic: At present, three courses are running as
MD (Pulmonology)
FCPS (Pulmonology)
Diploma in Tuberculosis and Chest Diseases (DTCD)
Regular training is offered to these students as a part of their curriculum, providing them with a unique opportunity to learn from and work with experts in the field of Respiratory Medicine. The unit conducts various activities including Morning Sessions, Seminars, Symposiums, Conferences, and Journal presentations, as a part of their Continuous Medical Education (CME) Programme. These activities help students to stay up-to-date with the latest research and developments in the field of respiratory medicine. In addition to academic activities patient care and clinical activities are also carried out side by side.
In broad terms this unit serves its activities in 3 modules -
Outpatient services : where more than 100 patients receive treatment per admission day.
·Inpatient services : Critical patients are admitted and served under close supervision.
Pulmonary interventions : Modern advanced and multiple minimal invasive procedures as,
■ Fibre Optic Bronchoscopy
■ TBNA
■ EBUS TBNA
■ Cryo biopsy
■ APC
■ Pleural fluid aspiration and tissue biopsy,
■ Tube thoracostomy and pleurodosis.
■ FNAC from lymph nodes.
Significant Achievements: Last year more than 190 fibre optic bronchoscopies and other different interventions were performed under this unit .
