Unit-1 - (LightBlue)

Introduction:Medicine Unit 1 of NIDCH has been doing an excellent job regarding respiratory patient services under the guidance of Associate Professor Dr. Khairul Anam, Director of NIDCH. On the basis of its continuous hard work, this unit has entered a new era of treatment for pulmonary patients. 

Participation in this unit is not only in the academic arena, including research activities and publication, but also in showing excellence in patient care at indoor and outdoor facilities, emergency services, and human resource development. We are looking forward to creating the opportunity to nimbly navigate a very competitive clinical and academic environment without wavering from our mission of serving the people of the country.

Structure:The unit runs under supervision of Unit chief along with three Assistant Professors, one registrar and three medical officers.

Services:

1. Academic: At present three courses are running

·           MD (Pulmonology) under BSMMU and MD (Chest Diseases) under DU

·          FCPS ( Pulmonology)

·         Diploma in Tuberculosis and Chest Diseases (DTCD)

Besides these students of many other discipline got regular training here as a part of their curriculum. As an academic institution this unit conducts a number of activities like morning session, seminar, symposium, conference and journal presentation as a part of continuous medical education (CME) and also research activities.

 

2. In addition to academic activities, patient care and clinical activities are carried out side by side. In broad term this unit serves the community by 3 modules-

·         Outpatient services, where over 100 patients recieve treatment per admission day

·         Inpatient services, where critical patients are admitted and served under close supervision

·         Pulmonary interventions: where patients are managed with modern and minimal invasive procedures.

Significant Achievements : A number of minimally invasive procedures and surgery were conducted under MU-1 which were performed previously under surgery department.

The unit also continuously performs extraordinary work on interventional pulmonology

Last year more than 200 fibre optic broncoscopy were performed under MU-1.

Future plan: Medicine unit-1 is committed to provide evidence based pulmonary care and policy implementation in the coming years. There is also development of database of different diseases. This unit is looking forward to upgrade the scope of pulmonary intervention as well as to improve the quality of treatment by multidisciplinary approach.
