Introduction: Medicine Unit 7 has been giving excellent services in both indoor and outdoor of National institute of diseases and hospital under the guidance of Associate Professor Dr. S K Shahinoor Hossain. On the basis of its tremendous hard work, and practicing evidenced based medicine this unit has proven its individuality .
We are working for the best interest of patient and in the same time our moto is to ensure highest practice of evidence based medicine. Multidisciplinary teamwork is also highly appreciated in our unit. Together we are working to ensure to utmost academic environment for trainee doctors.
Structure: The unit runs under supervision of Unit chief along with one Assistant Professors, one registrar and two medical officers.

Services:
1. Academic: At present, three courses are running.
• MD (Pulmonology) under BSMMU and MD (Chest Diseases) under DU
• FCPS ( Pulmonology)
• Diploma in Tuberculosis and Chest Diseases (DTCD)
Besides these regular respiratory courses, many other disciplines got regular training here as a part of their curriculum. As a part of national academic institution, this unit conducts a number of teaching activities like morning sessions, seminars, conferences and journal presentations as part of continuous medical education (CME) and also research activities.
2. patient management and clinical activities are run simultaneously. This unit serves the respiratory patients through 3 models:
• Outpatient services, where over 100 patients recieve treatment per admission day
• Inpatient services, where critical patients are admitted and evaluated under close supervision in general bed and respiratory care unit.
• Pulmonary interventions: Minimally invasive procedures are done .
Significant Achievements: A number of minimally invasive procedures were conducted under MU-7 .
The unit also regularly performs remarkable work in interventional pulmonology.Such as C-TBNA,pleurodosis.
Last year, about 160fibre-optic broncoscopies were performed under MU-7.
We are also done good number of chemical pleurodosis in malignant pleural effusion.We are working in collaboration with rheumatologists in dealing with connective tissue related DPLD.We are also dealing with extrapulmonary TB in multidisciplinary approach.
This unit is giving utmost effort in diagnosing unusual lung diseases.
Future plan: Medicine Unit-7 is committed to provide evidence based medicine and highest level of patient care in upcoming years. There is also addition of a database of different diseases. This unit is hoping for the best utilization of pulmonary intervention as well as upgrading the treatment through multidisciplinary approach.
