National Institute of Diseases of the Chest & Hospital located at Mohakhali, Dhaka. The Department of Respiratory Medicine of this institute is one of the most promising & comprehensive dynamic sector serving the needs of persons with Respiratory illness. 

Skilled physicians of Medicine Unit - VIII have updated knowledge to treat patients of all ages on both inpatient and outpatient basis and teachers provide outstanding teaching for post-graduate students.

  • *Management of indoor patients admitted under this unit.
  • *Management of Outdoor patients on schedule days.
  • *Management of referred patients from Surgery department.
  • *Bronchoscopy of indoor & outdoor patients.
  • *Lecture classes for MD (Chest Diseases / Respiratory Medicine) and DTCD students according to their academic calendar.
  • *Clinical demonstration / Bedside teaching of the students.
  • *Other academic activities such as case presentations, journal presentation, grand-round presentation, death review and CME seminars.

  • *Monthly CME program in unit of recent advances of management of respiratory illness.
  • *Weekly discussion meeting in the unit about indoor patient managements. 
  • *Continued research works on Respiratory diseases.
  • *Weekly Follow-up clinic for the patients treated under our unit.

 

 

 

 

 

Lackings:

 

  • *Manpower: Professor, Registrar, Assistant Registrar, Medical Officer, MLSS.
  • Rooms: Doctors Rooms.
  • *Instruments/Machines: Abraham’s needle, Pleuroscopy setup, EBUS-TBNA setup, APC setup etc.

 

 

 

Recommendations:

 

  • *Authority should take immediate initiatives for creating the essential new regular posts of the teaching staffs and others for Department of Respiratory Medicine of NIDCH.
  • *Well equipped infrastructure should be established for the department.
