Department Overview

 

National Institute of Diseases of the Chest and Hospital (NIDCH) is a state supported research institute and hospital in Bangladesh. It was established in 1955 as TB Hospital. In 1962 it was upgraded as Chest Diseases Institute, later on declared as National Institute of Diseases of the Chest & Hospital, which is located at Mohakhali, Dhaka.

 

The Department of Respiratory Medicine of this institute is the largest comprehensive dynamic sector serving the needs of persons with respiratory illness. Currently total 12 units in Respiratory Medicine departments are serving patients in indoor and outdoor basis.

The head of each Medical unit is headed by highly qualified physician and at the rank of Professor/Associate Professor. The unit chief with his/her team in specific unit is responsible to serve the admitted patient of particular unit. 

Department of Respiratory Medicine is dealing with- (i) Clinical discussion on previous days admitted patients, (ii) Lecture and clinical classes to DTCD, MD,FCPS students,(iii) Clinical classes of Post graduate Students of IPGMR, NIPSOM, BIRDEM, Army Medical Core Institute and Under Graduate students of different Medical Colleges,(iv) Consultancy opinion to the patients attended in the reference clinic, (v) Conduction of examination of different Post Graduate Courses

 

 

 

 

 

 

MEDICINE UNIT – V

Efficient physicians of Medicine Unit-V have been rendering excellent job regarding patient services. The unit is committed to setting the highest standard for patient care, professional education, teaching and training. Under guidance of our honourable unit chief, the unit is not only participating in academic arena but also showing excellence in patient care in outdoor, indoor and emergency services, research activities, publications and human resource development. Working as a team, we are looking forward to create the opportunity to nimbly navigate a very competitive clinical & academic environment without wavering from our mission of serving the people of the country.

Research activities:

 

  1. A study on ‘common organisms responsible for infective exacerbation of COPD and Bronchiectasis and their sensitivity pattern’ is going on, under guidance of unit chief and assistant professor.

 

 

 

Future Plan:

 

  • Monthly CME program in unit of recent advances of management of respiratory illness.
  • Weekly discussion meeting in the unit about indoor patient managements.
  • Continued research works on Respiratory diseases.
  • Weekly Follow-up clinic for the patients treated under our unit.

 

 

 

Lackings:

 

  • Manpower: Professor, Assistant Professor, Registrar, Assistant Registrar,
  • Rooms: Doctors Rooms.
  • Instruments/Machines: Abraham’s needle, Pleuroscopy setup, EBUS-TBNA setup, APC setup etc.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Suggestions:

 

  • Authority should take immediate initiatives for creating the essential new regular posts of the teaching staffs and others for Department of Respiratory Medicine of NIDCH.
  • Well equipped infrastructure should be established for the department.
